HALDON'S HIDDEN HERITAGE

 

In 2009 the Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World held an exhibition to explore the geology and history of the Haldon Hills. You can access this unique resource here:

HISTORIC ENGLAND- HALDON RIDGE TO DART VALLEY AERIAL INVESTIGATION AND MAPPING SURVEY

In 2019 a comprehensive survey of historical sites was undertaken not only of the Haldon ridge but reaching further towards the Dart valley 1678 historical sites were recorded. The full report can be found here:

TITHE MAPS.

Tithe maps provide details of land ownership and occupation, and the type of cultivation of the land, and are often the earliest complete maps of parishes. They give us an historical insight into how the land was managed.
